A quiz where you can learn something from

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Still good weather here, although this week there was some rain, and even heavy one in the south of the country and strong wind, looking like a hurricane. But in general here we have a little bit less warmer temperatures, but still sunshine most of the time, so may be next week temperatures will let us down somewhat, and later on it will go up.

It was a quiet week, as usual, but I kind of like it that way. Still there are happening things, of course, but some of them I forget and some of them aren;t really interesting to tell, hahaha. Oh yes, kind of a shock was our anual sttlement of gas and electricity. Pffffffff, we still have some money back, but the monthly payment has gone up drastically, saying it is all due to the was in Ukrain and the sanctions we have made on Russia. Well, I believe a little bit of it, but to raise the gas that much, is kind of brutal, really. Lots of people will have trouble paying it every month. The more that costs of living has gone up a lot too, I notice it every week when I go grocerie shopping. I wonder how long the energy prices will stay at this level, because it will be almost impossible to pay. And to change the kind of heating(here we have it mostly by gas) into different ones is still very, very expensive, not to do for large part of the population. So it will be interesting to see how all this will evolve.

Well, let's put economy at the side for now, and talk about some art. We have a quiz here "2 for 12", where there is a team of two that will have to answer 12 questions about all kind of subjects. They have the possibility to search in books or on part of the web, but the time one of the two is searching it costs money. At the end, if they have twelve letters(if they did find or knew everything) they will have to make a word with them. Then a second team gets about the same sort of questions(but the the very same) and it counts who has the most money left. It is a difficult quiz but real interesting, because you learn something from it. As it was last Friday evening, one of the question was about a name of a female painter of the Renaissance.  It was about Sofonisba Anquissola. I never heard of her, but I saw some work of her during the quix and it was beautiful so I looked her up on the web and found more of her paintings. Beautiful, in my opinion.I have two links for you where you can read and look about her life and work, if you are interested.

I found it very interesting to learn about this artists and there are lots more women artists of that period and a bit later too, that are almost not known and made beautiful work. Here is a Dutch women panter of the Golden age, with beautiful flower paintings:

Good I have given you something to look at, if you want to of course, but if you have a spare 5 minutes why not take a look?

Now I think i will go and prepare a little bit already for our dinner, I will make a pasta with fresh made vegetable "sauce". like dice of aubergine(egg plants), small cherry tomatoes, onions, garlic, some tomatoe puree added with a bit of the cooking water of the pasta, some other veggies I have bought already cut small, and oh yes, also some chorizo and another spicy small sausage and i think we will have a good meal, with strawberries as desert or may be soft cheese with fresh cut orange slices(I have bought some oranges and they are sweet and juicy, real yummie).

Wishing you all a wonderful week in safety and good health.

Nice encounter, lovely weather, oh wow.

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Today it is really fantastic weather, lots of sunshine, temperature around 23C, may be pity the wind is just slightly too blowing, but hey, nervertheless no complaining. It feels like it is already summertime!

It was a rather quiet week I think although I did some necessary shopping etc. and that always takes time. If I remember well it was on Tuesday that I went to a shopping street somewhat further so I took the tram. It was already nice weather so good to be out and I found what I was looking for. We needed to have a smoke alarm(from July this year it is legally required to have them im the house. Of course it is good to have them anyway, but we didn;t till now. so I bought two, that have a battery for 10 years in it and attachable with magnets. Wonderful. And even for not a very hugh price and good quality. I also bought us new cheese, we do eat that a lot you know. And I found Jan a pair of garden "working shoes" like these

They even were in sale, now how about that! He is happy with them they fit well, are comfortable.

And when I was looking for them in that shop someone adressed me, with the words"No, I cannot belive it but it is you!"I looked up and had to grab deep into my memory but I found the name with the face, hahaha. It was a daughter from an acquaintance from long ago. Jan always liked her, even sometimes was v=baby sitting her when she was very young!

It was nice to see her, she looked well and how about that, she even had a child, about half a year old. Gosh it was nice chatting to her for a little while, I gave her our phonenumbers, (stupid me didn't write hers down), but I am sure one of these days she will phone us or whatsapp us.

I had an appoinment with my doctor this for evaluation of the stomach problems. Well, I almost don;t have them anymore, so he gave me a new prescription for the small tablets and I am happy.

In between some grocerie shopping and house keeping(must admit I did very little, hahaha), I also spend some time gardening and even sitting in the sun for short times and it felt great.

Today I have an easy job for our dinner, because I made yesterday a big pan of soup and there is left more than enough for today too. When we might have some appetite later in the evening, I have some French cheese, a bit of Italian sausage for sandwiches, so we will not starve, LOL.

Good, the sun is on the patio again(disappears for a little while because there are some high trees), but around this time we have the sun shining on it again. So I think I will sit there for a while, may be read a bit or crochet a bit.

Wishing you a wonderful week, safe and well.

Weather that makes me happy.

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Yes, we have quite good weather, with a lot of sunshine and not much wind, temperatures around 15-16 today, earlier this week higher, and next two days we might have even over 20C and then later in the week it might rain a little bit with temperatures of around 18-19C.

This week Jan already had to water the garden, because it  isn;t raining, and if.... well, just so little that it isnt enough for the soil and the plants.

At last I went to the haridresser and oh, it feels so good to have my hair cur really short. It is a lot easier to handle too.

Not much happened this week, I did my things as usual, and also spent quite some time in the garden. To do some gardening, of course, but also just sitting on the patio in the sun, with a cup of tea and sometimes do some crocheting. I am now still in full swing with making the pillow covers, it is a nice project, doesn;t take too long. I first make a few covers and then sew them together.

My friend Heidi says it is going a little bit better with her, tis week she got again some aniti biotics and they seem to help. Still she will need some time to recover completely I think.

I don;t have much to tell so I better finish this post and will try to have some more interesting to tell next week, hahaha.

It looks nice in the garden now, so I will sit there for a while, with some crocheting,  Will be good to get some color on the face and the arms.

Wishing you all a wonderful week, and hoping everybody is safe and well.

New plants, King's day, so a week with variation.

 Goodafternoon everybody!

The whole week we have temperatures of around 12-13C, sometimes a whee bit more when sun is shining. It is at the moment colder than it should be this time of the year, but hope never fails, may be end next week the temperatures will go up slightly. It is although very dry , I think yesterday night we had some rain, but we will have to keep an eye on the garden, and sometimes water it.

This week we had our king's day, celebration of our King's birthday, the whole family visited a town in the south of the Netherlands, Maastricht, they were lucky with the weather, it was dry and even sunny. After two years of Covid and all kind of restrictions, finally it could be celebtrated as usual. It was nice to see it on tv.  I have a photo of the Royal family for you:

From left to right: Princess Ariane, Princess Alexia, Queen Maxima, King Willem-Alexander, and eldest daughter Princess Amalia.

Tuesday Jan had to go to hospital for an echo, just control, seemed to be all okay, it was for Jan a bit of an effort, but all went well. He also had to go to blooddraw, but now it seems to be necessary to make an apointment by phone! It never was. You could always go there, take a number and wait. So often it didn;t take long waiting time. Well, at the end he could have it done, but had to wait on the ones that had an appointment(but not always were already present on time!). Bonkers. Okay, now we know for next time, but still I find it strange.

Good, in the mean time Jan was doing all that I did some shopping, came home, prepared dinner( I think I made it for two days).

Wednesday was King's Day, so I was really lazy, and didn;t do anything! Whooooo!

Thursday I went for the last grocerie shopping bit, also bought some soil and three new bigger planters. even turned on the washingmachine in between and managed to make a phonecall to Heidi. Gosh, where did I find the energy?? Now that we had three new planters, yeah, you can guess already.......... we had to have some new plants to fill them. We still are waiting for some seedlings to grow and a few summer bulbs to come, but you can ALWAYS have a few plants more, LOL! So Jan had something to do for a day or two, I almost didn;t interfere when he did the planting. The plants I bought on Friday, found some nice ones and I was in such a good shape that I even used the vacuum cleaner and.... hey, mopped the floor of the kitchen, the sitting room and the hallway. Specially the sitting room could do with a good cleaning of the floor, and it feels good to have it done.

You can imagine that during this weekend I took it easy on myself, just made a quick soup for dinner(and we took a sandwich later in the evening). Today I still have the soup and I will make us two roast chicken legs. That should be enough for the evening. Easy, peasy and also tasty.

I've made a few photos of the garden, some of the new plants, and some of oldies. But slowly we are getting some color in the garden which is nice to see.

I just love pansies, can you tell?
Here some pending small petuni"s, they bloom all summer long, if you just do some deadheading every now and then.
This is a "Choysia", I took a small cutting some years ago, and this year it is blooming for the first time. Isn;t that great?
This is the Digitalis(Foxglove) I bought last week, I hpe it will grow much taller, should reach something like 90cms.
One of he new planters with some of the newly bought plants.
And as every year our azalea is showing off, and on the right a daisy plant, also newly bought.

And some more color in the border.

Well, I hope I gave you a bit of spring feeling, and now it is time to finish. I wish you all a wonderful week, stay safe.

All kind of things kept me busy.

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Our weather has been wonderful, pity today and coming days temperature is down for a bit(we had 18-19C, now it is around 15C). Most of it to do with a stronger wind blowing from the East and North. Nut all together we still cannot complain, it was sunny which already makes me feel better.

Touching wood when saying this, my stomach hold okay, that little pill seems to help indeed. Well, I continue for a while and make an appoinment with my doctor when the pills will be almost finished, he said to do so for evaluation.

But there was not so good news from my friend Heidi, you know she had a respiration infection last week? Well, yesterday morning I received a whats app message from her that she has been in hospital last Thursday evening. After a CTA scan it came out she had pneumonia. She just had finished her antibiotics! It was that bad, they said, that she had to saty in hospital, so she came home that same evening late. It will take however quite some time to recover from it and regain again some energy. Lately she already wasn;t feeling that good, very tired, lacking of much energy, probably the infection was due to that for a large part and with her underlaying PAH disease that isn;t good of course. Now she just has to learn to do mostly nothing at all, which has been always something difficult to do for her LOL. I just think it will take weeks or may be even a month or two before she will be feeling comletely okay again. And cross fingers that the pneumonia will not get worse!

Was there any good news this week? Yes, nothing special but all was allright, I did some shopping, two days I was staying in, and had one day I did a lot of work in the house, I was happy wth myself abou that. Friday it was such nice weather, that I took the tram to go to the market. It has been such a long time I didn;t go there, so it was a bit a treat you could say. And yes, I did buy some plants there, not much, but I couldn't resist and I bought with the same stand I think 8 or 9 packages of seed od all different kind of flowers. The plants I bought were  1 Digitalis(pink color) and thre smaller Cosmea, in screaming purple color, like this

Nice hey? Now crossing fingers that all the seeds will become beautiful flowers too, It gave Jan some work, but that is good. It keeps his mind busy as well as his body a little bit.

The seeds I bought, if I remember well, were, Marigold(in dark orange, great), Columbine with yellow, red flower, Lupine, something called Fried Egg(isn;t that a wonderful name for a flower?)Indian Blanket flower, Wallflower and even one tomato. we still have a package with small petunias, but we will save that for next year, to sow it real early next year.

Gosh, it all of this will come up and grow well, we should have in summer and late summer a buch of flowers all around.

I am still crocheting on the blanket, every day or two I make a few rows and I and making a pillow cover, but when i was hopping around on the web to look for some nice patterns for pillow covers, I saw soooooo much, that now I almost don't know which one to choose. I am quite sure I will try y hand on a cover with the Alpine stitch, and then I will see after that, hahaha. As long as I am busy with something it is okay with me, I guess.

I see that the sun is shining again in the garden, so may be it is time to take a cup of tea and take advantage of the sun.

Wishing you all a wonderful week, and stay safe.

Easter with lovely weather, whoo!

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Happy and blessedEaster to you all.

It is a beautiful day here, we have sunshine, nice temperature of around 16C, it is nice, to be able to sit in the garden in the sun for a bit. It will stay this kind of weather probably all week, so we cannot complain this year about Easter weather. I can remember other years, when we had terrible and cold weather.

Still a bit busy with the stomach, although it is getting better slowly, just every now and then it is a bit akward. But hey, as long as this little pill works quite well, I should not complain and I am NOT!

This week Jan and I finally got out to look for a new set of couches. We first though about a corner couch, could be nice, but at the end we chose two separate ones, 2 1/2 seats, not too big, but with enough space to sit and Jan can lie down on one of them for a little nap in the evening.

We chose for a beautiful upholstery fabric in a sumptious warm red color. I think it will fit great in our sitting room and with the new curtains. It will also make the room look a bit brighter. We also chose a new coffee table(it wasn;t completely my choise but I can live with it, hahaha). Onle delivery time is aweful, it will take at least 4-5 months. I couldn;t believe it, but although on a lot of furniture websites they clain delivery times of 6-8 weeks most of them seem not to be able to do that. May be we could find a furniture shop that could deliver faster, but we found one that suites us, so we will just wait a bit longer.

Now we just want to find us a new rug for under the coffee table, and for now I think that is enough.I will be happy when we will have the new couch, it will sit a lot better and will give us better comfort.

I told you about my friend Heidi last week, it seemed to go okay with her, but now she is having a respiratory infection and taking anti biotics at the moment. Poor soul, she isn;t having good times lately. And for her this infection strikes harder in her condition. I really hope the antivbiotics will do a good job and that she will recover real soon.

Still busy with the two afghans I am crocheting. So no news to tell about that. One is almost ready, and when so I will take a new photo of it, okay?

Now it is time to enjoy for a moment the sunshine. My dinner is about ready, we will have big shrimps(gamba's), marinated in some oil, with of course salt, pepper, tiny bit of chili and lots of garlic. I will fry them quickly in a pan and we will have baked potatoes with it.

Wishing you all a wonderful week, stays safe and healthy.

It looks as if slowly we will have spring time

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Today we have sunshine with temperature of 11C. Not really warm yet, but much better as last week and it will be even better. In one or two days we might reach 18C, then later on it will go down again to around 14-15C. Well, I can live with that if there is enough sunshine, with sometimes a bit of rain.

Although may be a bit early I bought us already some spring plants, that will last, if all goes well way into summer, like some petunia's, busy lizzie, etc. Good for Jan, he has to plant them somewhere, LOL.

My friend Heidi had to go to hospital in Amsterdam this week, for two days, having some tests, a heart catharisation, MRI, and all those unpleasant things, because she wasn;t feeling really well lately, they still have no real answer to it, but it might be she will have to take another medicin for her condition But that's not sure yet. She now uses Flolan for her disease(pulmonary arterial hypertension(PAH), a disease of the heart and lungs)., It seems she is one of few who still have this, there are now more and other medicins for it too. well, we will see what comes out of the research. Most important is, that she will feel not so terribly tired all the time. Nevertheless it would be smart of her to take it a bit more easy and this time she might even do that, hahaha. I know her, she always has a thousand things to do, but she has to think about herself better. we want to have her around for still many years.

She is home now already, she is feeling a little bit better, now it is waiting for answers.

I also had a telephone call with my doctor for the stomach business(it is going better, but wanted to know how long to use the extra medicin he gave me). Still have to take it till I made an appointment with him, which probably will be somewhere next week. I called him and his assistent told me he would call me back and of course I just was in a shop when he called.

Oh, Jan and I also got our rehersal vaccination for Covid last Thursday. They had a mobile vaccination post just near our house and we could go there without appointment. So of course I took this advantage. With summer and better weather coming along Covid infections could drop, but better be protected than regretting it afterwards, don;t you think? Let's hope it will work good enough for at least half a year. I think we will have to take another vaccination by the end of the year, just like the one we have each year for the flu. As long as it helps not becoming ill, or too much at least, when catching it, I will take it.

Before making this post I was in the kitchen preaparing for our dinner, I've made us a sheperd's pie. We didn;t have that for some time and it is tasty. I still had some sald from yesterday, so this will be our dinner with some vanilla custard as desert. Simple, but good enough, don;t you think?

I am still crocheting and have photo's of the ongoing projects for you.two smaller afghans.

The color of the second one isn;t that good on this photo, I have a picture from the web, where you can see it better.

It is the one bottom right of the batch.

I still have some work to do, haha. The second one I am making with a "built -in border", it looks fine, may be I just wil make one or two rows of  single crochet stitches extra to it. don;t know that yet. For the blue one I will have to crochet a border around when finished. Hmmm, I could already look into some possibilities on the web for that.

Okay, dear visitors, I am finished for this week. I wish you all great weather, a wonderful week, stay safe.

After some winterdays, here a few Spring-photo's

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Today it looks much better than last Friday. Friday afternoo it started to snow a bit, but next day there was a cover all over, and it felt cold!!! Nights were rather cold with even some frost, but that will be over next week for sure.

Still it was a jump back after that lovely weather we had before. Today the sun is shining, although really warm outside it reaches around 8 C. All the snow here disappeared and I felt so sorry for my lovely tulips. They must have had quite cold feet and there leaves too, even their heads were bent, as if they were kind of depressive, hahaha. But.... snow gone, a bit of sunshine and they are bshowing the blooms in all beauty.

Hopefully that was all the winter weather for this year. We can do with some really nice temperatures, and we want to sit in the garden, in the sunshine, having a cup of coffee and sniffing up some fresh Spring air.

The whole week again it was a little bit trying out how the stomach would act, well, one late night and about all next day it wasn't feeling great, but the other days I couldn't really complain. I still am taking one pill of the one the doctor prescribed. If all goes well today again and tomorrow, I will quite taking it(as my doctor suggested) and see if all goes well without it. if not, I can call my doctor again. Cross fingers that will not be necessary.

I was in town one afternoon and in the sale I bought Jan 3 new pair of trousers, (he really needed a few new ones, that would fit as they should). Now I only have to take the length,, put in a little safety pin and bring then to a little shop for clothes repair etc. I brought lately already 2 pair of trousers and they did a lovely job. As I have no sewing machine, I would have to do it by hand but never would get it done as good as they did. It costs a small price and I am willing to pay that.

I was in a buying mood that afternoon, also bought a few pair of trousers, leggings, (something in between those), very comfy to wear and for a real low price in sale too. Gosh, sometimes you just find what you are looking for, hahaha.

Next thing will be to buy us a new house phone. We have our mobiles, but still can do with such a phone, connected on cable. They call it here a DECT phone, it is one a charger and you can walk around with it, if you want. The one we have at the moment is already an oldie and is playing little tricks lately. I will try to find one with some larher buttons (or do you call it keys???), which will be easier to see and touch. Yes, it is also called a Senior telephone, hahaha.

In the evenings I am still crocheting, I finished a small baby blanket, it is more a cradle blanket I think, but I am quite happy with the result. Now I am making a larger blanket in a lovely blue color, I will try to make a photo when I have done some more rows on it.

Oh, I see it is already late afternoon, I will have to prepare a little bit for our dinner, so I say goodbye to you, wishing you a wonderful week to come, stay safe and don;t forget a little prayer for Ukrain, because that is still horrible and getting worse and will not be over for some time.

Till next Sunday.

Can't wait till Spring is really there.

 Goodevening everybody!

Yes, I am late today, but it was a day of doing small things, but nice things. We've had real nice weather this week, at least during daytime, the nights are still quite cold, just around zero point. Pity, that the spring feeling we accumulated, will go away next week, because temperatures will drop again to may be 11C( as for lately we had 16 to 18C).

One thing will be good next week, that there could fall a bit of rain. It has been very dry here, certainly for this time of year, so the garden can do with some rain.

All week was kind of focused on my stomach and I must say that the little pill seems to work. I have almost no trouble, at least not druing the night which is already a blessing. every now and then it is still a bit "not nice"feeling but it doesn't last too long. So I will continue next week with the medicin and see how that will go. I hope to cut on this pill when all goes well again, and hopefully I will not need to take it again.

It was a nice week to do some gardening, so Jan did some and i did some too. It really looks again like a garden waiting for Spring and summer again, LOL.

Today I was repotting a few seedlings and noticed we didn't have much potting soil, so I went to the dupermarket nearby and bought us two sacs of 10liter, and for now it will be enough. So it was nice to be busy with repotting, I also pruned some roses, and so on. Oh, while I was out for the soil, I hopped in another store to see if they had perhaps some nice bulbs for not too muh. They had not, but ...... I found a little dustbuster, ours died long ago, or almost had no good power anymore, and this one was a nice price and will do. This is the one:

They are handy when there is just a bit of dust or crumbs or something and not having to pull out the vacuum cleaner all the time.

Some tulips are blossoming, I've made a photo of a real nice species, it will post it next week, and hopfully together with another tulip that is just about to blssom(a new one I bought for this spring).

I am as always busy with some crocheting, I started another baby blanket, more a crib blanket, but it didn;t came ot as I wanted so I started it over and i think this time it will look nice. Perhaps next week I an take a photo of the part that is done.

That's all, folks for this week. I wish you all a wonderful week in safety and good health. Bye, bye

Sunday, March 20, 2022

Ha, I've made dinner for today and tomorrow!

 Goodafternoon everybody!

The last few days we had quite nice weather, lots of sunshine, pity there was a bit too much wind now and then, but out of the wind it was really nice in the sun. Today it is much less, only about 8C and there is chance to some rain(which is not bad, it was rather dry for longer time). Next week however there will be days with 16-18C, sunshine and so on so that is a good prospect.

This week was mainly dominated by my stomach troubles. So I decided Wednesday afternoon, just before I went for some grocerie shopping,  to hop into the doctor's office and try tp make an appointment. On wednesday's the doctor is there all day, but what I didn;t epect was that his secretary right away went to the doctor to ask if I could have a visit with him that moment. That was ever so kind of her and so it was. Explained all and he gave me first a little pill to try out for a few days. and call him Monday to tell how things were going. If there would not be much progress, he would sent me to hospital for an endoscopy. Well, the pill does help (i can take as much as 3 on a day, but I tried first with just one) and it helps a lot. At least during the night I can sleep through without trouble, only in the mornings I still have a bit of trouble, but much less than it was. So we will see what the doctor tells me tomorrow. Perhaps I will have to take that pill for a longer time, or only on times I feel there is coming up stomach trouble again. I do hope I can get rid of it, because it interferes into daily life you know.

But... I did have better mood and more energy after sleeping better and on a day it was still nice weather, I was courageous and cleaned the windows on the back(from room and kitchen) inside and outside. WHOOOOO!!. It felt good to have accomplished again something.

Jan is still quite busy sowing all kind of things, the other day I bought him seeds of parsley, dill, paprika and chilipeppers. I hope some of it eill come up and give us some harvest.

Tuesday Jan and i went voring for the council and as it was real pleasant weather Jan made quite a walk, you know. We went all the way to a flower shop and bought some primulas and ranunculus, they give a lot of color this time of year. And then we walked home again, slowly but steady and I was glad he could manage that. On the way home we even made aquintace with two cats, hahaha. One seemed to be on a stroll with her owner(sweet, isn;t it?) and I could caress her, which seemed to be something unusual. Her owner said that Josephine  normally was very shy with strangers. So I must have some good-will vibe towards animals, LOL. The other cat was sitting in a garden, but came towards me when I talked to him. He looked to be well taken care off, because he was on the fat side(bit like Garfield, hahaha)

Today I made us dinner for two days, and that's practical and often the taste is even better on the second day. I've made stew meat on Indonesian way, also meat balls to eat with some peanut sauce, rice  and noodles, all a bit the Indonesian way. And that's about all for this week.

Just wanted to ask your support in any way for Ukrain, because we shouldn;t forget about this war! Deep respect for the courage of the Ukrain people and it's leader Zelensky! And let us hope this war will be over very soon.

I wish you all a wonderful week, stay safe and healthy!

We might have real Springweather this week

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Oh my, I cannot believe the change of temperature during this week. I think yesterday it was around 14 C and looking at the weather app on my laptop it could be in the sun already 16C! That with not too much wind it really seems like we are heading to Spring time. Next week it still will be nice, might be some rain(which is welcome by now), and temperatures Tuesday on the highest of around 16-17C.

I was a happy camper this week when we got rid of a lot of not longer needed stuff of all kind. The bulky waste has been collected on Tuesday. Now we will try to have a next one, LOL.

It was all by all a quiet week, I did some housekeeping jobs, Jan is busy every now and then in the garden. I am almost ready with my baby blanket in white. Just have to tie off the yarn ends (I always have trouble with this part of crocheting, hahaha). And may be I will try my hands on a sweet crocheted applique for on the blanket to finish it off. And then is the question.... what will I make next? Probably it will be another blanket or I thought about making a baby sleeping sac, I saw a few real cute ones on the web and it is something a little bit different to make.

Next week we will have to go to vote for city council elections. Nice that the polling station is very near our house. I thik there will not be a huge number of people that will go voting, but as long as we can vote, we should use that right I think.

Strange to think we can go voting and not too far away in Europe there is a ugly war going on in the Ukraine. I fear it will be a long lasting one, with many casualties. But we have to continue our help to Ukraine, and pray there will be found some kind of solution for this situation.

Today I have a lightjob for making our dinner, yesterday I've made a pan of chicken soup, well filled and we still have more than enough for today too. So a simple meal today, I probably will give some buttered sandwiches to it and that should fill the stomach enough.

Time to make a cup of tea and perhaps find a nice pattern online for the sleeping bag.

Wishing you all a wonderful week, stay safe.

Busy with crocheting

 Goodmorning everybody.

It is still quite nice weather here, around 4-8C, we have nightfrost here and there, but at daytime temps go up and we have sunshine and blue skies. Pity the wind is from wrong direction, from East, to sometimes NE, and that makes feeling outside colder. Oh well. I just hope Spring will come soon and temperatures will go up and wind changes, and no more frost etc. etc. etc LOL.

It was a quiet week, although some small jobs have been done, also by Jan. He is a bit more energetic, even when he sleeps not all too much, but it is going towards Spring time and you can notice it with him. He really doesn;t like wintertime, it kind of gets to him somewhat.

We had a nice break in the week on Wednesday. In the afternoon we had visit from Heidi and Séverine and it was good to see them again and have a some small chat and a laugh.

I also did manage to fill a big plastic bag/sac with old things like clothes we don;t wear anympre, or are just not good enough anymore, I have now again some more room in the wardroom, although there is still a lot of stuff in it that we have to get rid off.

Happy to have had another day of more energy, and took advantage of that in cleaning bathroom)it is a very small one, but still....)and the kitchen floor and a quick dusting through the bedroom. Also did a little bit of grocerie shopping, and happy to have some good cheese again. There is a lot of difference in taste between cheese from the supermarket(although they have a few that are not bad) and a real cheese shop. And you know what? There isn;t even so much difference in price. Yeah, Of course you can get cheaper but you can notice the difference very well.

Also made an appointment for picking up some bulky trash( Jan cleaned out the small shed) and we have some more things that just take in place and we don;t use it anymore or it doesn't work anymore. It will be picked up on Tuesday, and I will be happy when it is gone. Then on to the next cleaning out stuff.

And I am still crocheting and even have a few photos, finally.

First is a blanket, you might call it a sampler blanket, I just have to finish the border and weave in some ends.

I will try to make another when all is ready, and then of the whole blanket. It is quite big.

And I am also busy on a baby blanket, it has a nice stitch, I have it from Sirin's crochet(she has written patterns but also a lot of you tube tutorials, which is sometimes very handy. The stitch doesn;t work very quick, but I don't mind. It seems not warm, perhaps, but made of soft yarn, it feels quite thick and soft and warm.

And I also made a few hotos in the garden, one is of the greenhouse where Jan has some seedlings in and two of pots where we have tulip bulbs and they have grown a lot and some already have a start of flower bud. All due to the mild winter we had.

Well, this is about all for this week. I do want to ask you to have a little prayer every now and then for the Ukrain people, who are having a very bad time now and it probably will get worse.

I wish you all a wonderful week, in safety and good health.

Scary times in Europe

 Goodafternoon everybody!

To start with we have rather nice weather, it is dry, we've had and still having, sunshine, temperatures around 8C(although at night there is some nightfrost). But in a few days the nightfrost will disappear again. I do hope so.

Oh, I am satisfied with myself. And why? I managed to send away all necessary papers for tax to my accountant. No worry about that for now.

I also wanted to bring a two pairs of trousers I bought for Jan to a little shop where they can make them shorter. I can do it by hand, but I am not really good at it and it will look much better when it will be done on a sewing machine by a more or less pro. It didn;t happen this week, because at the beginning of the week it was no good weather, still hard winds till stormy, rain and such, not really my kind of weather(you know, have to carry bricks in the pocket when it is storming real hard LOL).So that must be done next week.

Rest of the week I did a little bit of housekeeping, some grocerie shopping(but didn't feel to go to the sewing shop as well). Jan was quite busy with his seedlings, some pruning, sweeping up all mess and putting it into bags.

Right now that I am typing this post, I have Muppet on my lap. In dreamland, as far as I can see. She was already hear this morning but didn;t stay very long, probably decided it was nice company here and returned a bit later.

I don;t want to talk too much about politics, but this is something, that touched me and also makes it a kind of scary situation in Europe. I am talking about the invasion of Russia into the Ukrain!

There was already for some time the threat it might happen, but somehow nobody really believed that Russia would go for it. I think Russia thought they would have a pretty easy walk over, but that is a mistake. The Ukrain people stand for their country and freedom. And my heart aches for all the inhabitants there who now live in fear, uncertainty, and must cope with a real war. I hope they will win in some way, although in such a situation at the end nobody is winner, because there is done too much damage of all kind. And lives are lost on both sides for what?????

And it is also a very uncertain situation for Europe too. And this just started invasion, or just call it war, is on the very border of Europe, Ukrain is only about 2000kms away and that isn't very much. I can understand that specially in Eastern Europe, like Poland and the Baltic states and a few more they are really nervous too.

Let's pray all that this invasion/war will end real soon and that there can be found a way that the two countries can get on speaking and negotiation terms again. But for now I am not hopefull. And let's pray for all Ukrains that are in this difficult situation, they do need our support in some way.

It isn't the most uplifiting post for this blog, but sometimes things happen in the world that make a deep impression and must be talked about for a moment at least.

I will put a photo of my ongoing crochet project next week, I did want to have one today, but okay, not completely in the mood for that.

Wishing you all a wonderful week to come, stay safe.

There was a bad storm this week

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Today it is raining and with strong wind at times, temperatures are quite good all the time, today is around 10C. Last Friday we had a very very bad storm going on, it was at times 9-10 Beaufort(meaning windfalls with a 140 km p.h) and that is really bad here. There was a lot of damage done by it, even e or 4 people dead , roofs blown off, lots of big trees down, just snapped, etc. Saturday it was a lot better, although still with periods of strong wind.

It will stay a bit like this next week, wind will be a bit milder so to say, although still strength of 6-7, some rain, not the best weather to have.

It was all by all a rather quiet week, I finally made a few necessary phonecalls , now I am waiting on just one annual statement of a pension I receive, which is necessary for the tax stuff. Most of the stuff I can get online, but as I still(I am hopeless) don;t have a new printer, I cannot print them out and I find it a bit akward to ask my neighbour if I can use his printer. I know he doesn;t mind for a few prints, but if I can avoid it, it is better. So next thing on my to do list should be going out for a printer. I wonder how long it will take to actually go to the shop. Can do it online, but I want to see the thing and want to be able to ask a few questions about it.

I am rather busy with looking on the web for new crochet stitches and I am having a ball, hahaha. Best sometimes is looking on Pinterest, gosh you can find sooooooo much there. Pity sometimes the explanation of the stitches is only with a You tube tutorial, I like to have the written one, although it helps to to watch the tutorial on video. My sampler blanket is progressing, slowly, but steady. I'll try to make a photo of the part I have done so far.

Jan is busy with his seedlings. Some of them are growing already like mad, soon they will be strong enough to be places in that greenhouse. But this week he had to do a small DIY job in the kitchen. I have there a small rack on which hand a few kitchen utensils, but one day one end got losse from the wall, so it had to be screwed in again. Not just like that, no, first he had to fill up the hole that was there, do it twice, then wait till it was hard, then drill a new hole slowly, put in a plug then the rack then screw it  and pray it will hold. It took some time but it is hanging again, so hopefully it will hold for a good time again. It sounds as if it is a job of nothing, probably is, but if you are not really too handy, it takes more time. Most important is, that he succeeded, pffffff!.

Oh, nice news from Séverine this week, she passed her theory exam for her driving license. That's already something. Now the other part, to finally have that driver license.

This week we will be lmost free from all measures for Covid, there are still a few when there will be events of more than 500 people, and we still have to wear masks in the public transport and aeroplanes for a while. But it will be nice to be able to go shopping without a mask on etc. Let's hope there will not be a big rise of infections as result, or at least not that bad that hospitals will get a lot of patients with Covid again. The virus is mutating constantly, so we will see how all will go during this year. I stay a bit careful, certainly don;t want that Jan catches it.

Okay, I think my washing machine almost is ready with the laundry, the I want to prepare a little bit for dinner this evening, also want to look around for more crochet stitches, hahaha, and of course work some more on my blanket.

This morning we had again a visit from Muppet, almost every day she comes in the morning, I give her a a small handful of snack nibbles, and mostly she comes into the sitting room and stays there till noon or even a bit later. She likes to lay on the couch, and sleeping or dreaming about a cat dreamland.

Good, I wish you all a lovely week, stay safe, please.

And here I am, on a different day!

 Goodafternoon everybody!

we have today more or less nice weather, there is too much wind, but temperatures is around 9C and there is even some sunshine. Later this week it might go raining more, but ...... as long as there is no snow and frost, we can survive it.

This week I had quite a shocking message concerning my friend Edna. she was taken to hospital with a heartfailure. Gosh, that really wasn't good news, but I am happy to say, she is home again and has to rest, of course, a lot and take real good care of herself. But.... she did make a post today on her blog.

Today is Valentine's day, a happy day for many people, for me it is kind of double. It is the passing away date of my mother, many years ago and on her funeral service I mentioned in the speech, that if she had to go, this was a beautiful day to choose and I was sure her husband was waiting for her at the gate. So long ago already, but I still miss her at times.

For the rest of the week we spent time watching some of the Olympics, most of course when there were Dutch competitors. They did win several gold and silver medals, most in the speedskating, but also one bronze one in skeleton and that was the first medal for The Netherlands in that sport. Now isn;t that something great?

Then I spent quite some time on the laptop, searching for a nice pattern for a new blanket in crochet, and I found some interesting stiches that I can use. So I started a new blanket, in colors turqoise, yellow and lilac. So very soft colorscheme, but so far it looks nice. With the new stitch (and may be I pop in a few rows here and there with a different stitch, so that it will become a kind of sampler blanket) I will be busy for a bit of time.

Oh, gosh I see it is already time to make dinner, I was not in a speed mood today and then it seems if time goes faster than ever, hahaha.

Sorry for the shorter post, but there isn;t really much more to tell, that is worthwhile,  Take care of yourself, and stay safe.

Sunday, February 13, 2022

I'll probably post tomorrow.

 Goodafternoon everybody!

All is well here, don;t worry, just was so busy with other stuff, that I think I will post tomorrow. Then I have quiet time.

Stay safe and well,

Sunday, February 06, 2022

I am all in crocheting mood.

 Goodafternoon everybody!

It looks not too bad out of the window, but we have very strong wind and it rained, now some sunshine but the rain will come back, only the temperature isn;t that bad for this time of year, around 8-9C.

It was again a quiet week, I didn;t go out too much, just when we needed some grocerie stuff. It is looking however somewhat friendlier again in the streets now that shops are open again, cafe's and coffeshops too. Slowly we are returning to more normal life, even in footballstadions there are people alloowed(although just a restricted amount), but it is already better. Infections still go on, but more and more you hear the cry for letting all measures go and live life as we should. Also without Q-codes and such. I think too after two years we should try to come back to life as we had before Covid.

This week I sent a little birthday package to Séverine, who has her birtday next week Tuesday(she will have 20 years already, where did time go????). I brought it to the postoffice on Wednesday afternoon and I had next day a phonecall from Heidi, that she received the package. Heidi will stash it away till next Tuesday. But gosh, that was a real quick delivery!

Remember the yellow blanket I showed last week? That's my present for Séverine and also a card, of course and in it a little bit of money.

I can tell this here, because I know she isn;t reading my blog, LOL.

Did you watch some of the Olympic Wintergames? We did, sometimes. Most we are interested in the speedskating, we have one gold and one silver medal till now. But there are more distances that they skate, so we hope on a few more medals. We are lucky that we can watch the skating in the morning, there is a big time difference between Beijing and Holland. Other things are , for us, in the middle of the night. I think we will watch some things in rehersal, on better times.

I have finished another blanket, this one in lilac in the waffel stitch I have made photos. yeah.

I think this stitch looks rather nice.

Now I am busy on a red blanket, in another stitch, don;t know the name of it. It is a simpe pattern, just good to do when watching tv. I still have quite some rows to do, but already I am thinking about a next one, and which color to take and which stitch I will use, hahaha.

If you want to see something amazing, I have a video for you, I saw it on tv some days ago and found it rather amazing. Have fun watching.

 https://www.sunnyskyz.com/happy-videos/9777/Artist-Paints-Beautiful-Portrait-By-Making-Handprints-With-His-Daughter

Okay, time to sit for a while on the couch, take my crochet and in the mean time watch a bit tv, probably some sport, we'll see what is on.

Wishing you all a wonderful week, with not too bad weather, and stay safe.

We had a guest overnight

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Ourweather today is almost springlike. It isn;t so warm, although 8C isn;t really bad for now, but we have some sunshine, very little wind, but later this week temperatures may go down a bit, still now frost expected. It is quite different from Greece and Turkey at the moment, for example!

Yesterday was Jan's birthday and I tried to make him a nice dinner. There were a few phonecalls and cards so it was not a bad day and it just was a nice day. I had a started with a few marinaded gamba's, oh, they really were yummie. Then I had smoked salmon on toast with a two slices of hardboiled egg on it  and a few thin slices of cucumber . And I made a potatoe-rootbeet-salt hering. That tasted real good too. Lots of people don;t like our hering, it is raw fish layed into salt, but we love it. Also good just like this with some diced onions, and on a sandwich or bun too. As dessert I had some strawberries with a thick cream. Later on in the evening we had our coffee with a small piece of sweet pastry.

We have some left overs from yesterday, so we will have that for dinner today, easy peasy for me, hahahaha.

I told you already that the "lease"cat Muppet visits us again , but yesterday night, already late, at about 00.30 a.m. I sudden;y saw her standing at our kitchendoor. That was a bit strange, what to do. Well, with the still rather cold nights I cannot let her stay outside, so we let her in. Perhaps she would go after a few miniutes, but less was true, she didn;t want to go outside anymore.. She stayed with us all night and also all morning today. I had not much food for her, just a few cat-snacks, I gave her that, she really wanted something to eat. I suppose, but it is just an idea, that her owner may be was out, may be just the evening, or perhaps a whole weekend? As now the lockdown is easier, you can go to a pub or restaurant or theatre till 10.00 p.m. evening, but still it was strange she came so late to us. We'll see what will happen this evening or night.

I didn;t have a good night sleep last night, because I had a bit stomach trouble, and it happens a bit too often lately. I think it is time I make an appointment with my doctor and may be they will have to make an endoscopie again in hospital. The last one was 3 or may be even 4 years ago. At that time the doctor there said that may be they would contact me after around 3 years to make a new one, just to have a good look. But with all that corona stuff, lots of not directly necessary help is persponed. So I guess sme with me. But if the stomack (most is the upcoming acid, despite my medicin for it)bothers now too often it is probably time to go to the doctor.  I always need some time to finally call my doctor for something(not for Jan, then I am very decisive, but for myself, pffffff).

We'll just see what happens next week.

For the rest we cannot complain, it is a quiet life at the moment, soon there will be garden work needed, if the weather stays as good. I think Jan will start sowing some seeds, and it is good for him, to have something to keep him busy. Our nieghbour gave Jan a small greenhouse, a very simple one, but good enough. I found a picture of it

Simple but good enough. And it is rather big, so Jan can start sowing a lot of seeds, LOL.

And I made a picature(two in fact) of my last finished project, a crocheted blanket. It was a simple pattern stitch but nice and it works quite fast.

And at the moment I am making another blanket, but in a lilac yarn, in a waffle stich. I will still nedd this week I think to finish it. May be even two, when I've decided which border I will make on it. So suddenly I am gone from knitting and on to crochet. As long as my hands keep busy, specially when watching tv, it is okay. What I will do with the blankets? No idea, LOL. May be a gift here or there or I will donate it to a charity of some kind.

Good, that's about all for today, time to sit down on the couch, crochet a bit and watch probable some tv.

I wish you all a wonderful week, safe, not too cold or too warm weather,

Sunday, January 23, 2022

No nice weather, but less lockdown to come.

 Goodafternoon everybody!

It is today around 7C, sounds not bad, but it feels not good, it is cloudy and it is real nippy. No, winter is definately not my season, speaking about the weather.

Well, it was so nice last week to see shops open again and that we could shop again. There is still a lot closed under lockdown, still horeca and culture sectors are having a difficult time. But may be next week there could come a little relief, we hope and perhaps soon they can open up again. Once we should learn to live with covid and you cannot hold all soceity in a lockdown for ever.

We had again a quiet week, where not too mch happened. I know, it is boring to read my blog, but life has changed a bit the last couple of years. In the coming week or two I will try to have a few quotations from several companies for the removal of the ivy. It is growing on some spots like mad and we are not longer able to do that. It is taking too much energy and also it would be a bit dangerous climbing on stairs etc. I fear it will cost us some serious money, but it needs to be done. Perhaps it will not be necessary to dig it all out of the ground(that would be a real costly work), but it would be already great if they could remove the most of it above ground and also remove two small, but dead trees that are covered with the ivy too. I would be so happy if already the most of it would be gone and then we can prune or cut it ourselves again a bit. And may be it would be a good idea to have then a kind of contract that someone can come once or twice a year to do the trick. I have no idea how much that will cost, so again work for me to do in the next few weeks.

And also in the next few weeks it will be time to collect bit by bit the forms needed for the tax return. Yes, it's a thing that returns every year again, and is not the favourite jb of mine, although it isn;t too much work. And I am happy every year again that I have an accountant that does all the rest of the work for me.

Some day last week we were watching some program on tv and saw something amazing art. Probably there are more artists dojng about the same thing but this one is really good. It is a Nigerian artist who makes portraits with only a blue bic pen as tool And it is really amazing with what result. His name is Oskar Okonu and I think his work is real special.

I will give you a link where you can see some of his work. Take a moment to click the link, you will see something beautiful.

Nothing more left than wishing you a real fantastic week to come, and stay safe.

Some light in the tunnel

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Our weather is dull, grey, around 5-7C, it is dry, but that's all. May be in the next days we will get some more sun.

Fairly good news. We are out of the hard lockdown. A lot of things are open again, like all shops, with some restrictions, but still..... okay. Schools open, high schools and universities too, people can go sporting again or training, but hard thing it is for the culture and horeaca sector. They are still closed and I think that now slowly nobody understands it anymore, and just wants to go as soon as possible back to more or less normal life. Infections are still rising, but still there is not real pressure on the hospitals, much less people have to go to hospital and that is already something.

Séverine(daughter of my friend) is having lots of trouble of her booster. Sche had it last Sunday but had a lot of pain and it lasted so she called the doctor and he gave her some painkillers. I asked her how it was now, it was a bit better, but if it lingers on too long I think she ought to ask for some test or so.

We have had regular visits of Muppet again, mostly in the morning, when I get up and go into the kitchen to make a cup of tea, shce is standing at the door, looking inside to see if somebody is there to let her in, LOL. Well, of course I let her in, then she receives some yummie snacks, just s little bit, and then she stays often with me till 12.00 or 1.00 a.m.

It is all very quiet arpund here, with that lockdown there wasn;t much to do, I could just go for grocerie shopping and that's was it. So may be next week I will pick a day to look around in town centre, to see what is new. There are some small things I like to get, so it will be a good excuse.

Pity that the tram stop real near our house(just have to cross the street) has been eliminated byt the company. Seems there was not enough traffic at this stop. I don't know about that, but it is a pity, now we will have to take a longer walk to the next stop. They say they will see how it works during the year, and then make an evaluation of it. Hmmmmm, I have the feeling the stop will not come back anymore.

I am back in the knitting again, I am making larger blocks in different stitchesand I hope to make a smaller afghan/blanket with it. It would be kind of a sampler afghan. It is nice to have something to do with my hands during the evenings, when watching tv. It also keeps me more awake, at least a bit longer, hahahaha.

did I mention we finally have a new goverment? It is formed of about the same political parties as the one before, so what news to expect? I don;t know, they will have to prove themselves and work very, very hard, to gain again some confidence from the people. We now have 20 ministers and 9 state-secretaries. Pfffff, that's one thing they already did, to make more posts for ministers. There are some new faces between them, from some of them the people might have still some good expectations, but we will see what future will bring.

And now I think I will make a cup of tea and do a little game on the computer. The dinner is already ready, I just will have to warm it up in the oven. Yesterday I made us some "Kaiserschmarrn"a kind of pancake in Austrian style. It was real yummie and for sure to make again after some time.(as you see I put a link on it, so you can see what it is exactly and they have a nice recipe there). Try it, I am sure you will like it! You can have it as lunch or dinner and if you don;t want to use the rum, you can soak the raising also in some orange juice.

Have a wonderful week and stay safe.

And again a year older!

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Our weather is not too bad. Yesterday it rained almost all dy, but today it is mostly dry with even some sunshine and temperature around 7C. It will stay more or less this the whole week, with not much wind.

Yesterday ws my birthday and I reached the age of 69. Pfffff, it is going fast towards the 70's. It was a quiet day, I had some birthday phonecalls, and I opened my birthdaygift from Edna and found in the package a lovely pocketwrap she made in a scrumptious soft yellow color. I just love it.

Last Thursday Jan and i went for our boostershot. The travel with the tram and bus was easier than I though and the bu stopped real near the location, so that was a good thing for Jan. There was a queue but it wenT all rather fast and we didnlt have to wait long. We couldn;t chose the vaccin, pity, the first two vaccins we had from Pfizer, so I would like to have the booster too from Pfizer, but we gott it from Moderna. Not a big deal, those two seem to go well together. I had no trouble from the vaccination and I am so happy we finally have it both. Now it is waiting till government decides we can go out of the hard lockdown. One day it has to happen, it is actually unbearable, specially for the trade, shopkeepers etc. I think we just have to learn to live with the covid, perhaps have a vaccination each year and just treat it as a severe flu or so. Life has to go back to normal again.

On Friday Jan and I did remove all the Christmasvdecorations, it took us a few hours, but we managed to do it all in the afternoon. It always looks a bit empty the first day, but once used to it again, it is good too.

After a long time of no visits of Muppet she suddenly came by on Thursday morning. She stayed a couple of hours and today she also payed us a short visit. It is nice that she comes along every now and then. she looks well, so she is taken good care of, I think. I just have the impression Muppet looks sometimes for a bit of company. well, she can have that with us, LOL.

At the moment I am not knitting anything, but my hands like to stay busy during watching tv. So I will look around on the web may be for some charities that can use some afghans or blankets. That gives me something to do and it could help a little bit.

That will be my task next week, among the usual things of housekeeping and grocerie shopping.

Time to watch a bit of tv(there is speedskating and you know I like it) and then later have dinner and may do a little game on the computer after dinner. we'll see.

I wish you all a wonderful week, stay safe.

First post in 2022

 Goodafternoon everybody!

Of course to all of you a Happy New Year!

How did you celebrate it? Here it was real quiet everywhere, because of the lockdown, although I think here and there people broke a bit the rules. Well, perhaps not always the most sensible thing to do, but very understandable.

Jan and I had it very quiet. I made some yummie snacks for the evening, brought a few to our neighbour and watched some lovely tv. On New years day Jan and I looked into all the presents of the Christmasbox of my oversea friend Edna and it was great. We had such lovely presents and it was a good start for the New Year. (The box just arrived after Christmas, but never mind, we just did Christmas a week later again).

Just after Christmas I tried my luck on the phone for the booster and how wonderful, I just had to ring once, wait a real short time and could make an appointment for both of us. Pity that at the location the most near we only could have one end January, or even begin February. That was a too long wiat I though, but lucky thay had opened another big location, takes a longer trip, but okay, I will be happy when we have the booster. It will be on Thursday, the 6th of January. Hopefully there will not be a too long waiting queue.

Today we will have just one day of really lazy behaviour, I have a simple dinner, not much work, but good enough, later in the evening we will still have a bit of left overs from New Years snacks, so I guess we will not starve LOL.

Tomorrow the "normal"behaviour should start again, with some laundry to do, some cleaning and such. Most important for us this week is getting the booster, and we should fill in a question list today or tomorrow to take with us to the vaccination.

Time now to have a small sandwich or something like it, perhaps a cup of tea( I could take a tea with cranberry and apple taste my friend sent me in the box, I think this is a good idea!

Have a wonderful week.
